How then shall we live?

Martin Luther     (1483-1546)

On October 1517, when Martin Luther nailed the 95 Theses to the doors of All Saints Church in Wittenberg, Germany, he had no idea that he was beginning a reformation of the Christian Church. And yet, that is what happened, and his influence continues to be felt by the Church more than 500 years later. By emphasizing three key tenets: 1) Grace alone; 2) Faith alone; 3) Word alone --- Luther brought the Church back to the essence of Christianity. Those truths remain the same today. Our faith is grounded in God and what God has done for us.

At Shepherd of the Hills, we profess our faith in the triune God --- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We also confess that God’s only Son, Jesus Christ, is Lord and Savior, and that the Gospel is the power of God for salvation for all who believe in him. We also accept the canonical Scriptures --- the Old and New Testament --- as the inspired Word of God and are the authoritative source and norm of our proclamation, faith, and life.

Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church is part of a larger body of Lutherans that share the faith in North America called Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and part of the Southeastern Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Faith does not close our minds to the world and our hearts to others. We continue to listen to the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments. We listen to the witness of others and we watch for the ways God is active in the world around us. Faith opens a place for engaging others in conversation, for seeking the truth, for asking questions and speaking love in word and deed.

Faith is a full life, liberated for a living, daring confidence in God’s grace.
